On a beautiful spring day I walked a 2.5km stretch of The South Downs Way from Holden Farm to The Milburys pub, and back. 5km/ 3.1 miles there and back, 5.7km/3.5 miles with the detour to Lane End.
Holden Lane leads south from Holden Farm Camping & Cafe, which then becomes a quiet country lane to The Milburys.
On the way back I explored a path heading west across a field to Lane End, and then back northeastwards down Church Lane to Holden Lane and back to Holden Farm. The path across the field is a narrow trodden path with a bit of a bumpy exit on to the road at Lane End. An off-road wheelchair or buggy is recommended for both routes, but especially the detour. Parking - Holden Farm (Cheriton, nr Alresford SO24 0NX) is a working farm, with a campsite and cafe from April to September. Walkers and cyclists are welcome. The previous owner of The Milburys Pub (Beauworth, nr Cheriton SO24 0PB) welcomed walkers. The pub was sold in Easter 2023 and is currently closed for renovation. The car park was open when I walked to it and other walkers had parked there, but it looks like a barrier may be put up when contractors are not working.
Toilets - Holden Farm. The nearest Changing Places toilets at Winchester Science Centre, Telegraph Way, Winchester, SO21 1HZ, Tesco Winchester Extra, Easton Lane, Winchester SO23 7RS, The Discovery Centre, Jewry Street, Winchester SO23 8SB.
Refreshments - Holden Farm Café
