Ventured into Sussex on one of the hottest days of 2023, continuing east along The South Downs Way. This is a relatively short (5km/3 mile) walk there and back, as I had to get back to South Harting for my ride back to Hampshire. Open OS Maps in new window.
In the National Trust’s own words, Harting Down offers “dramatic hill-top views and secluded valleys, with abundant wild flowers”. The South Downs Way is wide, alternating between grass and dirt, and easy going for an all-terrain wheelchair or buggy http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/harting-down
Parking - Harting Down National Trust Car Park, Petersfield GU31 5NG. PayByPhone parking (£3 all day in September 2023). There are no designated areas for disabled parking as the car park is large and open with no marked bays for any vehicle.
Toilets - There are no toilets on Harting Down. The nearest public toilets are at South Harting beside the White Hart pub, which has layby parking right next to it. There is a disabled toilet te Uppark, a neighbouring National Trust property, approximately three miles away. The nearest Changing Places toilet is Staunton Country Park 9 miles away.
Refreshments - The White Hart, South Harting and Harting Stores & Post Office
